DL Tomorrow night!
How-do all!
A quick message before I'm out the door on vacation to invite you to DL, tomorrow night, Thursday, from 7-10 at Monty's Korner. Tom and Kira will be hosting, so I'll see you next week!

Drinking Liberally at Monty's Korner tomorrow night (Thursday), 7PM!
Hey everyone,
Thanks to all who stepped up to help co-lead our swell group. I'll be getting back to you with a sign-up schedule, and I hope you know how pleased I am that we have such a step-up group of people. I've gotten your individual emails but I've been in all-day training this week, so I haven't had my normal slack time to respond. I will soon, though.
This week, we will be saying goodbye to our co-founder, Jason, who is heading to Seattle. We'll miss his conviviality and eidetic memory. His intellect is matched only by his great beauty. Let's send him off in style on his journey to the heart of left-coast tree-huggin' nerdvana!
More locally, Liz has offered to speak to the Monty's Korner manager about letting us DL folks take advantage of the happy hour specials that normally run Monday - Wednesday! That's $2 well drinks and American beers, if I recall correctly. Woo to the hoo!
And if you're drinking water, I believe that's still free as well!
See you tomorrow night, all you happy taxpayers! The tide is turning, I can feel it.
Ted
They're changing guards at DL Rochester!
Hi everyone,
Summer's here, finally! And you know what that means. Yes, what better time than summer to protect our democracy, what better time for good progressives to band together and celebrate why we love this here country! A great time to remember that America isn't great just because it exists, but because people like you and me are constantly striving to make it great.
To quote SmashMouth's "Walking on the Sun" (a song that just exudes summertime patriotism):
Twenty five years ago they spoke out and they broke out Of depression and oppression and together they toked And they folked out with guitars around a bon fire Just singin' and clappin' man what the hell happened Some were spell bound some were hell bound Some they fell down and some got back up and Fought back 'gainst the melt down
And here we are, still fighting back against the meltdown. So come on out! I have a whole buncha things I want us to discuss:
how's the flyer-ing going? input for a new progressive project I'm starting any thoughts on how DL is doing, how to improve it, what you'd like to see and, pursuant to the subject of this email...
we need a new co-leader! That's right, Jason is stepping down due to other responsibilities, and DL chapters work best when there's at least two leaders. If two of you would like to co-lead with me as sort of a Roman triumvirate (without so many knife-ings), that would be even better.
DL provides a great service to progressives in Rochester that want to meet informally and discuss progressive politics, world history, or just where to find great food. I invite anyone who wants to help our group continue and grow to step up and help out. It takes little more than the time to be there on Thursday, and with 2 or 3 co-leaders, we can make sure we've got it covered without having to commit to every week. From there we can make it to be almost anything we want, but if we at least function as a Revolutionary War-era tavern, where Colonials can come learn what the Redcoats are up to and how we can stop them, well, I'll be happy.
Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow night!
Ted
The time has come, my fellow Americans, to Drink Liberally!
Hey all you crazy cats and kittens,
Get hip that that kooky far-out hip, happening, and otherwise, right-on event known as Rochester's Drinking Liberally! It's going down, in accordance with scripture, at the following locale:
Where: Monty's Korner
When: Tonight (and every Thursday), 7PM
Ok, I had a little too much coffee this morning, but by cracky if it wasn't free/fair trade, so I'm even drinking coffee liberally! How blue am I?
That's right, true blue to the core, baby.
It was great to meet the elusive, but very cool, Chuck last week. And Jamie, you are so on tap (hey, a DL pun! wheee!) for that Drinking Liberally mix CD! I was thinking, can you bring a copy tonight? We can trade it off and offer commentary.
I was thinking, I see a lot of very cool bumper stickers in parking lots. My wife started to chat with a woman whose car was bumper sticker'd up in a most progressive way, and found out that she'd never heard of DL but thought it was cool. By jiminy, there's an ocean of cool car owners out there people! Let's at least let them know about this cool happening. I'll be printing out some flyers provided by Our Leaders on the DL website, and bringing them to the meeting tonight.
I may be a little late, so enjoy the first round without me!
Oh, one other thing, I've gotten the feeling that some folks have felt a little left out because they felt like they weren't really "drinkers". I feel really bad if this was your experience with DL. I can't say loudly enough, that we are here primarily as a crossroads, or a cracker barrel of sorts that folks can gather around and talk about the things that matter, instead of tiptoeing around "How's the weather" conversations like we're so often forced to these days.
DL Rochester is first and foremost a meeting place for progressives who want to meet and talk to other progressives, and I don't care if you order a double water on the rocks, ginger ale, or NOTHING. Just come and know that you'll be welcomed with open arms, and respect for whomever you are.
Let Karl Rove and other Machievellian politicians do the dividing, and let's keep growing these connections we're forging. America is in a tough spot right now, and we need all hands on deck. Or at least listening at those listening thingys that old ships used to have.
Stopping now with the bad maritime metaphors, I remain,
Your humble servant,
Ted
